RENEWING THE MIND – XIII (The Word of IAUE - 4)

RENEWING THE MIND – XIII

THE WORD OF IAUE - 4
…..

Romans 12:2  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of IAUE.

So far, in our study of renewing the mind, we have “reset” our basic understanding of what the “gospel” actually is; and NOT what we have been told it is for the past 1,700 years.  We did this in order to better understand what the Master’s expectations are of those who bow their knees to him; which is something far different than what is produced by preaching “Just ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins and receive him into your heart.”  The only way to respond to “the good news that Messiah has appeared” is to repent.  That does not mean to feel sorry for the bad things you have done.  It means to turn away from all behavior that is disobedient to the will of IAUE; to cease fighting against his dominion over you; and to embrace his right to rule your life entirely.  If this is not how we “think” about Messiah, our thinking is still producing death within us; and we need to renew our minds.

Having reset our foundation, we began to examine the source of information upon which we are to rely to renew our minds.  It does no good to change the way we think if we are still thinking incorrectly.  We must learn to think with the mind of Messiah, trained by the words of IAUE; and the Scriptures we study, regardless of the translation, are to serve as a platform for listening to and hearing the voice of the Spirit of IAUE teaching us all things and guiding us into all truth.

Try to imagine an infant at birth.  That baby’s mind is virtually a clean slate. He/she does not know the first thing about how this world works, what money is, what government is, what arts and science are, what history is, what mountains look like, what friendship is, what trees are, what animals are, etc.  The first thing the child truly knows is hunger and the discomfort it brings.  So, the very first thing that begins the education of the child is the selfish demand for food. “I want!” “I want!” The first thing the child learns is that regardless what else is happening around it or around the world, HE/SHE IS THE ONE TRULY IMPORTANT THING THAT MUST BE TENDED TO EVERY TIME HE/SHE CRIES.  The child’s experience actually bears this out as a truth…for a while.  Then there is that day of awakening when the parents let the child cry because they are not going to just jump every time the child wants something.  That is the day the child begins to learn the art of manipulation, because it does not learn in that moment that the parents are wise.  The child still believes its needs and wants are of the utmost importance.

Now, compound this initial experience of the child with years and years of living in this world learning exactly how things work, what gravity is, what centrifugal force is, what is the difference between hot and cold, what money can buy, what it is like to have very little money or a whole lot of money, what ego is, what acceptance and rejection are, what it is like to be popular or to be ignored, what religion is, what hurts and what feels good, what sickness and injury are, what doctors are, what is curable and what is not, what cruelty is, what kindness is, what is the difference between joking and taunting, what it is like to be very intelligent or just of average intellect, which animals are safe to be around and which are dangerous, what fashion is, what it is like to grow old and the effect it has on the body.  Years and years of training just how to get along in this world produces an encyclopedia of information and experience that teaches us exactly what we can expect given any situation or circumstance, and ultimately upon what we can rely to get the results we desire.  Welcome to the mind that needs to be renewed!

When we come to Messiah, our souls have been trained by the world.  Imagine your soul as filled with books, a literal library of material covering every subject.  You have read every book, and you have cultivated what you believe about every single topic.  Aha! There it is!  You know what you “believe.”  What you believe is based on the information you have collected and what your experience tells you about what you know.  Above all else, your experience has been the cornerstone of your belief; so those aren’t just stale books full of information in your soul.  They are the record of your philosophy of life…a philosophy that, until the day you are born of the Spirit, had no input from IAUE.

Day 1 – You learn you are forgiven.  Most think this means they are forgiven the bad things they have done, the things they regretting doing or the things that produced a sense of guilt in their lives; but that isn’t what they were forgiven.  The contemporary false gospel, however, leads them to “believe” that is exactly what has been forgiven; and that belief does very little to bring change to any of the recorded material in their soul’s library.  Their worldly experience is still in charge of their belief system, which is what rules their lives.

Day Eventual – You learn that you were forgiven of your acts of rebellion against the will of IAUE; and that you were created to do His will, not yours.  The ramifications of that revelation reverberate through your soul’s library; but no changes are made readily because experience is still your principle teacher.  If the Spirit says to give an amount of money to someone that reduces what you have left below what you know you will need by the end of the week, you disobey the Spirit because…you know how money works.  And so it goes with everything you are led to do by the Spirit.  His words versus your experience present a constant conflict.  This is why we see in the book of James:

James 4: 4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with IAUE? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of IAUE.
Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, IAUE resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

Compare this with:

Romans 8:5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
Because the carnal mind is enmity against IAUE: for it is not subject to the law of IAUE, neither indeed can be.
8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please IAUE.

Your soul’s library is the indoctrination of the flesh.  By choosing to comply with its teaching instead of responding in obedience to the voice of the Spirit of IAUE, you are essentially choosing the wrong side of a war, a war that your side cannot win.  The Spirit earnestly desires you to choose Him.  After all, He was given to you for this very purpose:  to teach you all things and to guide you into all truth.  Your former teacher was not at all interested in that objective. The problem, however, is you are going to choose what you “believe.”  That is why the command is given to renew your mind; to recognize that your life’s teachers have been wrong from “Day 1” and that what you have been believing all your life is based entirely upon lies.  The Spirit wants to rewrite your soul’s library and liberate you from the lies.  He is, after all, called the Spirit of Truth.

This brings us to the Word of IAUE.  Do we “believe” it?  Do we really?  Then why do we still choose to go with the information contained in our soul’s library of worldly experience?  If I were to ask churches across the world, “Do you believe what the Bible says?”  The resounding answer would be, “Yes!”  Some churches would probably break into a praise and worship service given half an opportunity to sing and dance around their confession that the Bible is true and that they believe every word of it.  However, what about:

John 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

John 14:13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

John 14:14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

John 16:23  And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.
24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover

Galatians 5:24  And they that are Messiah’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

Romans 6:12  Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

Hebrews 13:29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of Elohim, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith IAE. And again, IAUE shall judge his people.
31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living Elohim.

1 Thessalonians 5:18  In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of IAUE in Messiah Yahushua concerning you.

1 Peter 2:24  Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

Philippians 2:14  Do all things without murmurings and disputings:

These verses are just the tip of the ice burg, so to speak, of the Scriptures we either do not believe or just plain ignore.  We do not believe them because they are not what our experience has taught us; and we ignore them because our selfish flesh does not want to yield to them.  What do either of these reactions have to do with the Truth?  IAUE wants the Truth in our inner man to rule our outer man.  The only way that is going to happen is to rewrite our soul’s library in faith…faith that the Spirit of IAUE is the Spirit of Truth; and the Word of IAUE may be trusted implicitly.

RENEWING THE MIND – XII

THE WORD OF IAUE - 3
…..

Romans 12:2  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of IAUE.

As a faithful translation, all contemporary Bibles serve to provide us a platform for “hearing the voice of IAUE.”  If we study the Bible we have in our own language, today, and do not listen for the voice of IAUE while we study, we are going to achieve absolutely nothing higher than an academic knowledge of the words on the page; and we will totally miss the Word of IAUE.
* * * * *
It is necessary, in order to walk in confident trust of the Word of IAUE, that we resolve HOW to use the Scriptures that are translated into our native language. It is not my intention to break down anyone’s confidence in today’s Bibles; but rather to fortify your confidence in them by understanding how to make use of them.

Let’s take a look at a very well-known verse of the bible:  Galatians 2:20

KJV  I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

NASB  I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.

NET  I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So the life I now live in the body, I live because of the faithfulness of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

HRV  I have been crucified with Messiah, and I live, yet no longer I, but Messiah lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh, I live by faith toward the Son of YAHWEH, the One loving me and giving His life on my behalf.

SS  I have been impaled with Mashiyach; and it is no longer I that live, but Mashiyach living in me: and that life which I now live in the flesh I live in faith, the faith which is in the Son of Elohim, who loved me, and gave himself up for me.

Here are five translations (King James Version, New American Standard Bible, New English Translation, the Hebrew Roots Version and the Sacred Scriptures version).  Each says our life is now lived:

“by the faith OF the Son of God;”
“by faith IN the Son of God,”
because of the faithfulness of the Son of God,”
“by faith toward the Son of Yahweh,”
in faith, the faith which is in the Son of Elohim”

Notice also the differences between “am crucified” and “have been crucified,” “Christ” and “Messiah,” “Son of God” and “Son of Yahweh,” “gave Himself up” and “giving His life.”  Each of these have slightly different meanings.  My question for you is…which one of these is the divinely inspired Word of IAUE?  Upon which translation can you have faith?  Each one of these verses has a different meaning regarding how we currently live, and potentially vastly different applications.  There are ministers who have built entire doctrinal positions on the KJV’s use of the word “of” despite the fact that almost all other English translations use the word, “in.”

You see, this sort of conflict exists within English translations literally thousands of times, especially when the meaning of a verse hinges upon a preposition, whether it is “with,” “of” or “in” something. If you have been following this blog from the beginning, you have heard me say many times that an academic knowledge of the Scriptures is not the same thing as the revelation knowledge of the Scriptures.  When the Holy Spirit provides revelation, your understanding of the Word of IAUE will transcend the words on the page and render irrelevant whether a verse should be rendered “of” or “in” or “with.”

Now, let’s look at another issue.

Deuteronomy 25:4  Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out the corn.

What does this verse mean?  It seems simple enough, doesn’t it?  You don’t restrain the ox from being able to eat a bit of corn while he is doing the work of treading out the corn.  Maybe there is a subtle suggestion that you should not tempt the ox by making him help you glean the corn while denying him from being able to taste the food which is so desirable to the ox.  After all, Solomon does tell us in Proverb 12:10 that a righteous man regards the life of his beast.

If this is what this Scripture means to you, then you have missed the Word of IAUE.  Look at what Paul says regarding this verse.

1 Corinthians 9:9 For it is written in the law of Moses, thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth Elohim take care for oxen?
10 Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope.
11 If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things?
12 If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Messiah.
13 Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar?
14 Even so hath IAUE ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.

1 Timothy 5:17 Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.
18 For the scripture saith, thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.

What this verse in Deuteronomy 25:4 actually means is that those who labor to minister to you in spiritual things should benefit from your material goods.  The passage in 1 Timothy 5:17, above, which says the elder who rules well, and especially the one who teaches, should be “counted worthy of double honour” actually has reference to being paid twice as much as ministers who either do not rule well, or who do not teach.

Let’s look at another illustration.

Genesis 9:9  And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you;

Galatians 3:16  Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Messiah.

We might say that Paul was just taking advantage of the verse in Genesis unto his own objective.  In English, the word “seed” can refer both to singular and to plural; but Paul was not reading from an English translation, and the Hebrew word “zerah” is not both singular and plural. (Actually, Zerah was the name of the primary star in the constellation Virgo which specifically represented the person of Messiah.  It was the word used to identify the Messiah both to Adam in Genesis 3:15, and to Abraham in Genesis 15:5.) Can you see that the fact we read this verse in English poses a potential problem to our being able to hear the Word of IAUE?

One more thing:  Those who diligently study the Scriptures, today, and seminaries all across the globe rely on the Greek manuscripts for their source material in understanding the New Testament.  You will have noticed on many occasions, my use of Greek words underlying the English words in some of the passages of Scripture we have used in this blog.  There is value in this as long as we understand that the Greek, too, is nothing more than a translation of an original Hebrew or Aramaic original. In fact, many scholars who are fluent both in Hebrew and Greek readily admit that much of the Greek manuscripts is meaningless as written unless it is “reverse engineered” back into Hebrew.  Then the verses make sense.  One obvious evidence in the English translations that the Greek manuscripts are themselves translations is the many times we see the phrase “being interpreted.”  The problem in these verses is the Greek has no vocabulary to translate the Hebrew, so it provides an “interpretation.”   For example:

John 1:41  He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messiah, which is, being interpreted, the Christ. (KJV)

Mark 15:34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?  (KJV)

Mark 15:22 And they bring him unto the place Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, The place of a skull. (KJV)

The Holy Spirit does not need to interpret the meaning of His own words within the text of the original language in which He inspired men to write. That is provided by the men who translated the Hebrew/Aramaic text into Greek.

In the wilderness, when Messiah was being tempted by the devil, he responded, “It is written,” then he recited the verse of Scripture which contained the Word of IAUE.  He relied upon his Father’s words throughout his life and ministry; but his use of the Scriptures transcended the words on the page and captured the heart of IAUE…the Word of IAUE.  (“You have heard it said…but I say unto you…” Matthew 5.) So, too, it should do for us.  Throughout the Scriptures, IAUE repeatedly commanded His people to “hear and obey” His voice.  His voice was the source material for His Word.  THAT is the point of origin; and when we have the voice of IAUE (or what many might call, “the witness of the Holy Spirit”) on the Scriptures, we have the thing upon which we can have faith; and which can empower our lives of obedience to Him.

The translations we read every day, as we read them, should be an open invitation of our heart for the Holy Spirit to “teach us all things, and to guide us into all truth.”   When we hear His voice, we have received the Word of IAUE; and our faith can soar and produce the results IAUE intended.

RENEWING THE MIND – XI (The Word of IAUE - 2)

RENEWING THE MIND – XI

THE WORD OF IAUE - 2
…..

Romans 12:2  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of IAUE.

A carnal mind…does not consider the heart of IAUE.

Romans 8:5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against IAUE: for it is not subject to the law of Elohim, neither indeed can be.
8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please IAUE.

We looked at this passage of Scripture last week.  Let’s look at it more closely, this week.  Notice that those who are “after the flesh” do something in particular. The Scripture is very specific about it. They “mind” the things of the flesh.  They are “carnally minded.” This is why they are living according to the dictates of the flesh.  It is because it is what they think about all the time.

1 John 2: 15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

Consider your heart a garden and your thoughts seed.  What you think is what you plant; and what you plant is the fruit you are going to produce. This is a simple yet profound truth that is revealed in the “parable of the sower;” a parable that Messiah regarded as the most fundamental concept that he taught. (The apostle tells us that a carnal mind is the enemy of IAUE and is utterly incapable of pleasing Him, no matter how good one’s intentions might be.  The purpose of renewing the mind is to enable us to know and do the will of IAUE; so a carnal mind is exactly what we are trying to overcome.)  A carnal mind bears bad fruit…fruit that is unacceptable in the Master’s kingdom.  Its fruit, no matter what form it might take, produces death.  That which does please the King, that produces good and acceptable fruit, is a “spiritual mind,” a mind that thinks upon the things of the Holy Spirit.  Paul makes it clear that a spiritual man “minds the things of the Spirit.”  It is what he thinks about.  Such thoughts are the seed a spiritual man plants in his garden; and it produces the fruit of “life and peace.”

What are the “things of the Spirit?”  To answer that question, we must look to see what the Holy Spirit does.

Genesis 1:1  In the beginning Elohim created the heaven and the earth.
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of Elohim moved upon the face of the waters.

This is the first mention of the Holy Spirit in the Scriptures.  In it we see the Spirit moving upon the waters that covered the earth.  He is waiting…waiting to act…waiting for the Word of IAUE.

Genesis 1:3  And Elohim said, ‘Let there be light:’ and there was light.

The Spirit of IAUE acts upon the Word of IAUE and makes it come to life.  He is the creative power within the Word of IAUE.  Remember what Messiah said about the miracles he performed?  “The Father that dwells in me, He does the works.” (John 14:10)  He was referring to the Holy Spirit.

John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

1 John 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

The Holy Spirit is referred to as “the Comforter” and as “the anointing.”  He will teach us and He will remind us of the words of Yahushua.  Of course, Yahushua said that the words he spoke were not his words.  They were the Father’s words.

The Holy Spirit is preoccupied with the Word of IAUE.  His purpose in our lives is to teach us the Word of IAUE, remind us of the Word of IAUE, comfort us regarding the Word of IAUE, anoint the Word of IAUE within us and to give creative power to the Word of IAUE in us and through us.  We are not supposed to be just normal people.  We are to be an extraordinary people through which the power of IAUE flows as His Word becomes alive within us.  That is the Father’s intention in giving us His own Spirit.

That brings us to the all-important question.  What is the word of IAUE?  To Adam it was the voice of IAUE.  To Noah, it was the voice of IAUE.  To Abraham it was the voice of IAUE.  To Moses, it was the voice of IAUE.  With Moses came the writing of the Torah (the first five books of the Bible).  Then there were the historical books, the poetry books, the prophets, major and minor; but throughout their writing and being compiled into the Tanak (the Old Testament Scriptures) there was always the clarion call by IAUE to “hear and obey” his voice.

To Yahushua the Word of IAUE was more than the Scriptures.  It was the voice of IAUE.  In fact, it is with Yahushua that we begin to see that the Scriptures were a platform to hear the voice of IAUE and not an end in themselves.

John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.

Messiah told his detractors that they studied the Scriptures and missed the entire point of them. From this we understand that the Scriptures are NOT, of themselves, the Word of IAUE.  They are a springboard to the Word of IAUE. They function like a code, inspired by IAUE, for the initiated to be able to move beyond them to the Truth, which IS the Word of IAUE. This is a radical thought; and one upon which I tread lightly; but one, however which must be discussed.

2 Peter 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of Elohim spake as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

I absolutely believe that the giving of the Scriptures was under the direction of the Holy Spirit.  In this passage of Peter’s epistle, he began with explaining that he was physically there on the mount of transfiguration and literally saw Messiah transformed and glorified.  He actually heard with his own ears the voice of IAUE declare that Yahushua was His beloved Son; and yet, Peter said he had an even more sure word of prophecy to confirm that Yahushua was the son of IAUE; more sure than his own personal experience.  His more sure word of prophecy was the Scriptures.

1 Corinthians 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Messiah died for our sins according to the scriptures;
And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

Paul also, having seen the resurrected and glorified master with his own eyes…glory that actually was so bright it blinded him for three days, said that Messiah died for our sins and was buried and rose again, just like it said he would “according to the scriptures.”

Having said that, we must examine the fact that the Hebrews, both devout and common, both priests and scribes and the unlearned who heard the Scriptures being read in the synagogue every Sabbath, never saw it coming.  They never knew Messiah would die for their sins.  They never knew he would be buried and would rise again on the third day.  It was there all along, but it could not be known.  Why is this?  It is because though the Scriptures testify of Yahushua Messiah; it requires the Word of IAUE to reveal what the Scriptures actually say.

I remember listening on the odd occasion the radio broadcast of Madeline Murray O’Hair, the founder of the America Atheist Organization. She could quote more Scripture than virtually any Bible teacher, preacher or minister I knew; and yet she had no clue what it said.  She did not discover the Scriptures to be a doorway to the voice of IAUE.  Her knowledge of the Scriptures served her no better than the Jews in the day of Yahushua who could not see that they testified of him.

There have been many ministers, in attesting to their belief in the divine inspiration of the Scriptures whom I have heard to say, “I believe the Bible is the divinely inspired word of God from cover to cover.  I even believe the leather is genuine.”  Unfortunately, they were all wrong.  Peter says holy men of IAUE were moved by the Holy Spirit and wrote down the Scriptures under the instruction of the Holy Spirit.  The bulk of the Old Testament Scriptures were written in Hebrew (part of the book of Daniel was written in Chaldean).  Most people today believe that the New Testament Scriptures were written in Greek.  I do not believe that. I believe since unto the Jews was given the responsibility by IAUE to record the Scriptures, that they, too, were originally written in Hebrew (or Aramaic, a contemporary variant of Hebrew in Messiah’s day).  Common sense alone would tell you they did not write the Scriptures in a language most Jews could not read.  (The Peshitta is an Aramaic New Testament that claims authorship that predates the Greek manuscripts.  There is scholarship both to support and to refute that claim; but the Eastern Church holds exclusively to the Peshitta as the reliable version of the New Testament Scriptures.)

Early in the writing of this blog, we discussed the problem of translations.  The moment you translate anything from one language to another, you lose the nuances of the original language, and you run into the complications of the receiving language having no direct vocabulary to translate some of the original language.  Consequently, for most of those who read this blog and English is their native language, you use an English translation of the New Testament.  Whether it is the King James Version, the New American Standard Version, the New International Version, the Amplified Bible…whichever one it may be, it is not the inspired word of IAUE.  The translators were not holy men of IAUE receiving His words to write in English.  It IS, however, a faithful rendering of ancient manuscripts that endeavor to capture as much of the original language and thought as is possible to convey in English.  The problem is, it is NOT the version that was originally transcribed by holy men of IAUE moved by the Holy Spirit.

Next week we will examine more thoroughly why understanding this distinction is critical to disciples of Yahushua, today.

RENEWING THE MIND – X (The Word of IAUE - 1)

RENEWING THE MIND – X

THE WORD OF IAUE - 1
…..
Romans 12:2  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of IAUE.

If we are going to purpose our lives to do the will of IAUE, as this verse commands, we must renew our minds.  We must change the way we think.  How do we do this?  We start by acknowledging that the way we think has been trained by the world and not by IAUE; and that our thinking needs to be changed.  This first step is one most believers never take.  Most “think” that they “think” correctly because they trust their own judgment.  They are wise in their own conceit.

Proverb 26:12 Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.

Proverb 14:12  There is a way that seems right to a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

We cannot trust the way we think about anything when it comes to doing the will of IAUE.  Our day to day living with all the choices we make throughout each day will be filled with disobedience born of good intentions. If we do not embrace this truth as an axiom; we have no hope of ever living in such a way that will please IAUE or our Master Yahushua.

We started this process by reclaiming the true message of the “gospel.” The good news of the coming of Messiah is everyone’s starting point.  It is what brings us into relationship with Elohim and makes doing His will even possible; and even more so, it is what makes doing His will desirable.  The message that has been preached for generations does not include repentance, thus it does not set us on the path of obedience.  It keeps our own fleshly hearts intact to do our own will.

Repentance causes us to kneel before our King and in humility pledge our allegiance and loyalty to him. Repentance enables us to recognize that loyalty to anything else is misdirected, unreliable and dangerous. Repentance produces an awareness that service to anyone or anything else is an insult to the love of IAUE that was manifested through His sacrificing His son to redeem us.

Once we have entered into relationship with IAUE through faith and submission to Yahushua His Messiah, we must begin the renewing process to learn how to think with His thoughts, in order that we might know and do His will.  How does this work?  Where do we start?

We begin with identifying what is the standard of true thinking.  Correct thinking comes from the Word of IAUE.  In the Old Testament, the “word” of IAUE was generally translated from the Hebrew word “davar,” which had many applications and is translated many ways throughout the Old Testament Scriptures.  In the New Testament Greek, we see it translated from two Greek words, “logos” and “rhema.”  Many like to develop significant spiritual implications from these two words; but both of these words are used frequently in secular writings and do not carry those spiritual meanings over into them.  We can make a general application based upon their usage in the New Testament and suggest that:

Logos represents the word/words IAUE has uttered, which words also contain His purpose and intent, the reason and thought that went into why He spoke them. They also contain the power to make what He has said happen.

Isaiah 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

For example:

Genesis 1:3  And Elohim said, “Let there be light;” and there was light.

In the Hebrew, this verse is amazing.  It says, “And Elohim said, ‘Light be;’ and light was.”  There is creative power resident in every word of IAUE.

Rhema is the spoken word, mostly by man.  In a spiritual context, it is the words that IAUE has spoken that we have either heard or read which have become life to us; and then WE speak them and release both the words and the power of IAUE resident within those words to the hearer so that the words received by the hearer can become the logos of IAUE to them.

Romans 10:17  So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word (rhema) of Elohim.

There is a divine intention that there be this transfer of the power of IAUE through the words which we speak to others.  Observe this transaction in the life of Paul.

Acts 14:8 And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother's womb, who never had walked:
The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed,
10 Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.

We may not just repeat the words that IAUE has spoken.  We must communicate IAUE’s heart along with His words.  The way this happens is for the logos to become flesh.  This is a process whereby we meditate on the word(s) of IAUE until it becomes revelation and life to us, and it brings about a change within us…a change of conformity to the heart and mind of IAUE.  Then and only then can we speak His words to others and it will be the rhema of IAUE…the power to implant the logos of IAUE in another person.

When I was a young man stationed in Germany, I met with a fellowship of believers in a nearby city on Sunday evenings.  One evening, I received a prophetic word for the fellowship.  It was a stern word intended to bring correction to the group.  As I prepared to speak this word, I was halted by the Holy Spirit, who told me that I was not prepared to speak this word.  Over the next week I meditated upon this word and listened to the Holy Spirit and realized that He wanted this word to become flesh.  He wanted it to find a harmonious heart within me; one that felt for these people the way the Father felt for His people.  That next Sunday, this word returned to me and I was about to speak it, and again the Holy Spirit said, “You are not ready.”  For three weeks, I was subjected to the dealings of IAUE to change my heart regarding the content of this word.  The next Sunday, this word returned to me; and I had the witness of the Holy Spirit that I was now approved to speak this word; and just before I stood up to speak it, a lady in the fellowship stood up and spoke the exact same message to this fellowship.  I was stunned and frankly, I was a bit upset; but the Holy Spirit asked me was it important for the group to hear this word specifically from me or was it enough just to hear the word of IAUE?

I share this to illustrate how we need to have our minds renewed.  It is not just to learn what the Father has said.  It is to feel with the same heart upon the words the Father has spoken.  So, regardless what the message is, whether it be the appearing of the Messiah, the forgiveness of sins, the remission of sins, the healing of the believer, setting the captives free, the love of IAUE, the gifts of the Spirit, the unity of the Body of Messiah, the resurrection of the dead, the judgment of the wicked, the coming kingdom of Yahushua, or the proper attitude we should have towards every aspect of life; not only do we need to know what IAUE has said about it; but we need to know how He feels about it, until both His word and His heart have changed the way we think.  Without both of these aspects of His word, we are not going to be able to properly renew our minds.  Without both aspects, we are not going to be able to know and do the will of IAUE.

Most everything IAUE thinks and feels is contrary to the way we think and feel; because the world does not have his life and light illuminating it.  Consequently, the way the world trains us to participate as functional members of its systems of education, health, government, arts, music, science, etc., is dead opposite of the heart of IAUE; and it is constantly barraging us with messages to keep us in harmony with its contrary ways.  This is why all of us begin our journey as disciples with carnal minds.

A carnal mind is one that has been trained to consider and to value the lusts of the flesh, the lusts of the eyes and the pride of life.  It is one whose standard is that of selfish conceit, the group mentality, or prevailing social mores.  It does not consider the heart of IAUE.  In fact, what IAUE thinks is regarded as out of place, old fashioned, embarrassing or just plain stupid.  The carnal mind, however, produces bondage, hardship, sickness, disease, and death; and despite such devilish rewards, it regards it as worth it.  If we could only grasp the insanity of a carnal mind, we would race to the word of IAUE to be changed into his likeness, and enjoy the fruit of life and peace in this life, and in the world to come, life everlasting.

Next week we will endeavor to answer the question:  What is the word of IAUE?

Kingdom heart: a heart that offers no resistance to the performance of the will of IAUE.
