A KINGDOM HEART – XLV

FUNDAMENTALS OF DISCIPLESHIP

A KINGDOM HEART – XLV

Philippians 2:13 For it is Elohim which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

Last week’s focus was on the following passage:

Psalm 42:1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, So panteth my
soul after thee, O Elohim.
2  My soul thirsteth for Elohim, for the living El: When shall I come
and appear before Elohim?

This blog is dedicated to the cultivation and training of those who would be disciples of Yahushua Messiah.  Over the past year and a half, a distinction has been made particularly clear…that of the difference between a disciple and a believer.  Congregational Christianity makes believers of men.  The gospel makes disciples.

Christianity produces minds that are content with the knowledge that one’s eternity is resolved as a result of praying a single prayer. Anything and everything they do after that prayer is up to them to choose to do or not to do; because the eternal outcome is unaffected by their choice.  This necessarily keeps the will of man as the master of his life.

The gospel produces hearts that yearn for the King and for his Father.  It bows the knee to one who has the right to rule in all matters and makes servants of everyone who heeds his command to repent.  The gospel makes the will of IAUE the preeminent focus and concern in every aspect of life.

Believers have little concern about knowing the will of IAUE.  They bury themselves in the religious culture of Christianity; and they learn to enjoy the fellowship of like-minded believers; because the group mentality numbs their minds against the absolutely dead-certain knowledge within their hearts that they need to repent and come under the authority of the Master.

I remember an event in my life over forty years ago when in my study of the Scriptures I began to see more and more things that disagreed with the theology of the Baptist church, which was my family heritage.  I became very uncomfortable with the insights being revealed to me. Then I heard the voice of the Holy Spirit ask me, “Are you going to stand before six million Baptists in the day of Judgment, or are you going to stand before Me?”  It was in that very moment that I vowed never again to protect myself against any revelation of Truth that caused me to stand alone from the masses.  Then the Holy Spirit told me, “If the masses believe something, there is something wrong with it. The Scripture says to ‘buy the truth, and sell it not,’ and the masses are not paying the price to possess the Truth; consequently, what the masses believe is either part truth and part lie, or all lie.”  In the past forty years, I have seen the integrity of that word demonstrated over and over again.  Interestingly, the world would have us think that the more people believe a given thing, the more liable it is to be true.  “All those people can’t possibly be wrong…could they?”  Look at what the Master says:

Matthew 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Notice in these verses that neither the broad way nor the narrow way may be walked without a choice first being made of going through one gate or the other.  In this passage, the Master is not talking about the general masses of the “lost” going down the broad way to destruction. He is referring to those who have made a choice to enter the gate that gives access to the broad way because they believed (or want to believe) it was the correct gate to enter in order to arrive at the destination called “Life.”  Notice also that the motivation for choosing that gate is “Because strait (narrow, difficult to pass through) is the gate, and narrow (troubled, afflicted and compressed)  is the way, which leadeth to life.”  The Master also says, “and few there be that find it.”  This is because the many are not looking for such a path to walk.  The broad path is much more appealing to their senses; which is why they choose it.  They keep their own will intact; and deceive themselves that they are headed in the right direction.  The right direction, however, removes their own will, and replaces it with a heart to do the Father’s will; which results in a life that is filled with hardship and difficulty; but it is the only path that leads to Life.  Following the masses is like being a lemming who marches over the cliff to its death, because all of these other lemmings could not possibly be going the wrong direction.

John 16:1 These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.
They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth Elohim service.

2 Timothy 3:12 Yea, and all that will live piously in Messiah Yahushua shall suffer persecution.

Romans 8:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of IAUE, and joint-heirs with Messiah; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

Philippians 1:29  For unto you it is given in the behalf of Messiah, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;

2 Thessalonians 1:5 Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of Elohim, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of Elohim, for which ye also suffer:

2 Timothy 2:12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:

The path that leads unto Life is not easy on the flesh; but it is liberating to the heart and soul. The gospel prepares the heart of the disciple to embrace anything that obedience to the will of the Master might bring into his/her life.  Suffering for his name’s sake is a badge of glory.

Acts 5:41 And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.

If you are seeking a pleasant life in this world, with the least amount of hardship or difficulty possible, a life with as much ease as can be arranged, then your mind is focused upon doing your own will.  You are conflicted and a double-minded man (who may expect nothing from IAUE  James 1:5-8). The mind set upon obedience to the Master has no place for contemplating the kind of life they want to have, now.  The wants of the disciple are whatever the Master wants for him/her.

Philippians 2:13 For it is Elohim which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

When our hearts are properly resigned to His authority and purposed to do His will, He works within us both to WANT to do His will and to empower us to DO His will.

Whose will is in control?  Whose will is determining the decisions being made in your life? Until you have made up your mind on this issue, you will remain a double-minded person; and your “beliefs” will simply comprise the tenets of your religion.  You will find all of your acts of so-called obedience to be nothing more than what you have acquiesced to do after your own will has evaluated the options.  Prayer will be merely a practice of going through the motions of uttering faithless requests to Elohim.  Discipleship awaits the believer. It is only a life of repentance away.

A KINGDOM HEART – XLIV

FUNDAMENTALS OF DISCIPLESHIP

A KINGDOM HEART – XLIV

Psalm 42:1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, So panteth my soul after thee, O Elohim.
2  My soul thirsteth for Elohim, for the living El: When shall I come and appear before Elohim?

Last week’s post ended with this comment:

If you do not awake in the morning and consider the new day another
blessing of grace to be able to live for IAUE and to express your love to
Him through your words, thoughts and deeds; then you should reevaluate
whether or not you are in the faith, or just in a religious culture.  Do not
allow traditions of men to make the Word of IAUE of no effect in your life.
Seek Him whom your soul loves.  If He is hidden from you, it is only
because He wants to be found by you.

Make no mistake about this.  Christianity is a religion.  It has its own culture.  It has its own rituals and traditions.  It has its own standards of behavior expected of its adherents.  As long as what others can see and observe in your life complies with these rituals, traditions and standards, you are free to maintain as dark and secret a life as you want.  You will be loved and accepted as a good Christian; and no one will be the wiser.  You just cannot afford to be “found out,” or your ruse will be ended.   If the darkness in your life is exposed in an uncontrolled way, you will most likely be rejected by the masses and never again fit in with the congregation.  Christians have never really learned how to deal with the revelation of blatant sin in the life of one of their own; because the continued presence in the congregation of such a member threatens the exposure of everyone’s darkness. It threatens the unwritten “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy in the church; and that is unacceptable.

The Scripture commands us to exhort one another daily, while it is still called today, lest any should become hardened by the deceitfulness of sin (Heb 3:13); but most Christians would consider it an insult to be asked by anyone if they are concealing darkness in their life; or how they have been dealing with temptation in their life, or if they have any specific repetitive sins in their life.  That is just no one else’s business.  Their mindset is:  “I have prayed “the magic prayer;” I have taken my place in the congregation; I pay my tithes and offerings and have attended services on a regular basis; so I have a right to be respected and to be left alone and my life unmeddled-with by others, especially by people I do not know well.”

This is by no means an exaggerated illustration of life within Christianity.  This is the norm.  It is reinforced with every single “worship” service.  Each member gets out of the service what they put into it, insuring that their presence and participation is “all about me.”  Everyone leaves the service either satisfied or dissatisfied or just numb; but no one leaves wondering if IAUE has been served at all.

It is imperative for one who would be a disciple of Yahushua Messiah to break free of this religious culture, to be delivered of this church-going mentality.  Real life is not taking place there.  Cards are being punched as one’s sense of obligated activity is being satisfied.  Before the Sunday service draws to a close, one is already contemplating lunch, what needs to be accomplished that afternoon, what friends you might want to spend time with, what football games are going to be on television.  Where are the thoughts for IAUE?

Ephesians 2:8  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of Elohim:

Last week I challenged the reader to determine if they are truly in the faith, or just in a religious culture.  This was not a precursor to challenging the legitimacy of the Christian religion, today.  It was to awaken us to the reality of the focus of our spiritual activity.  Is it selfish, or is it in humble obedience to the will of IAUE.  We are saved through faith; but what is faith?

Hebrews 11:1  Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

This is a very popular verse in Scripture that most can quote; but seldom does anyone actually examine what it says.  Faith is the substance of things “hoped for.”  What does it mean to hope for something?  The essential element of all hope is “desire,” and the second is “the absolute expectation of that desire to be realized.”

Romans 8:24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?
25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

Once again, it is important for us to sever from our mindset the religious meaning of salvation.  Being saved does not mean “going to Heaven when you die.”  Salvation is deliverance from all that hinders us from being able to do the will of IAUE.  With that in mind, there first must be a desire to do the will of IAUE, otherwise what would be the purpose of having faith in Yahushua Messiah?  Whatever that purpose might be, it would be utterly selfish.

Christianity would have us think that Yahushua was born, lived and died, and rose again to forgive men of their sins; and that being forgiven we would all become one great big family of Elohim and enjoy His presence for eternity.  There are many problems with this idea; but the fundamental problem is that because of the death and resurrection of Messiah, all men HAVE been forgiven their sins.  The gospel message is not one of convincing people to ask Messiah to forgive them.  They already ARE forgiven.  So, what is it they are NOT already?  They are NOT already living for the unhindered performance of the will of IAUE in their lives; because doing that without the grace of IAUE being provided is impossible to them.

So, here we have it in a nutshell.  We are saved by grace THROUGH faith.  Grace is the power that IAUE gives to us that enables us to do His will.  We receive His grace as a direct response to our faith in Yahushua.  Faith in Yahushua is not just believing in what he did for us; it is an earnest desire with absolute expectation that what he did for us will bring us into fellowship with IAUE in such a way that we may receive His grace and thus be able to do His will; because that is the longing or our heart.

Can one say he has faith in Messiah if he has no interest in doing the will of IAUE?  Can one truly say he has faith in Messiah when he repeatedly chooses disobedience to the voice of the Holy Spirit in deference to his own will?  Can one really believe he has genuine faith in Messiah if he walks among the brethren while living in secret sin?  The proof is in the pudding.

James 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

If a man’s spirit is within his body, the body is animated.  If the spirit is no longer in the body, the body is dead.  In like manner, if a person has faith, he will be obedient to the will of IAUE.  If a person is not obeying the will of IAUE, that person does not have faith.  Where faith exists, grace is given.  Where grace is given, obedience to the will of IAUE abounds.  One cannot have faith and walk in disobedience.  One cannot be in the faith and live for his/her own will.

We would do well to contemplate the ramifications of this.  Consider the selfish choices we make every day.  Consider the arguments and disagreements that “believers” have with their spouses.  Consider the contentions between so-called brothers and sisters in Messiah; and the difficulty of some to forgive people who have wronged them?  All such living focuses on self and the advancement of their own will.  Where is the desire to do the will of IAUE, instead of their own will?

Psalm 42:1 As the hart panteth after the water books, So panteth my soul after thee, O Elohim.
2  My soul thirsteth for Elohim, for the living El: When shall I come and appear before Elohim?

King David’s son, Absalom, had worked long and hard to garner the affection of the people of Israel; and on a ruse, received his father’s permission to go to Hebron.  Once in Hebron, Absalom had shouts go up throughout the twelve tribes of Isreal, “Absalom reigns as king in Hebron.”  Fearing his own son’s attack, David and his men fled Jerusalem, taking the Ark of the Covenant with them; but not long after leaving the city, David instructed the Levites to return the Ark to the temple in Jerusalem; because that is where it belonged.  While in his self-imposed exile from Jerusalem, David pens the 42nd Psalm.  “As the hart panteth after the water books, So panteth my soul after thee, O Elohim.”  His desire for the presence of IAUE was great. He could not bear being away from the temple of IAUE for so long.  He illustrated it as a parched deer that longed for water to quench its thirst.  Strength wanes and life fades as one longs for that one simple drink of water that could restore vitality to the body.  The presence of IAUE was that one simple drink to David.

David desired IAUE.  Do we?  If we do not; then our faith is not faith.  It is just our religion.

A KINGDOM HEART – XLIII

FUNDAMENTALS OF DISCIPLESHIP

A KINGDOM HEART – XLIII

Romans 6:1  What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
Elohim forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

Last week’s post ended with this comment:

If we merely believe the stories about Yahushua; if we merely believe the
doctrines we are taught, and never experience the life consuming desire to
do the will of IAUE, we are no more separated unto IAUE than those who
regard the Bible stories as myths or irrelevant.  That which separates us
unto IAUE, that which makes us different from the rest of the world, is the
sanctifying will to do His will.

I can truthfully say that with more than 60 years exposure to and participation in the Christian culture, this idea of being dead to sin is virtually an alien mindset.  Oh, yes, there is an awareness among most that they should not continue to sin; but it is not united with either a fear of IAUE that prevents them from choosing sin, or with any concept that they will experience any real consequence for having chosen to sin.  So ingrained is the idea that they can just confess their sin, once enjoyed, and be done with it (per 1 John 1:9); that it produces a “have your cake and eat it too” attitude about sin.  This is largely thanks to decades of erroneous teaching about that verse.  If they ever realized that they are to confess their sin to another brother or sister in order to receive forgiveness and cleansing from unrighteousness, they would become much less casual and flippant in their attitude toward sin.  Just imagine the impact on the Christian world if they truly believed that their forgiveness and restoration to fellowship with IAUE and with Yahushua were absolutely dependent upon exposing their sins to other people rather than to IAUE.

This concept produces for us another “litmus test” of the genuineness of our humility before IAUE.  If the idea of confessing our sin to our spouse, our pastor, or another brother or sister with whom we have close fellowship causes our pride or ego to feel threatened, then we have pride and ego that needs to be brought to the altar for sacrifice unto IAUE.  If anything within us interferes with the immediate confession or willingness to confess our sins and failures to the family of IAUE, then we have dross that needs to be removed from our hearts in order that we might be pure of heart before our Father.

1 John 1:6  If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:

Rom 8: 5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
Because the carnal mind is enmity against IAUE: for it is not subject to the law of IAUE, neither indeed can be.
So then they that are in the flesh cannot please IAUE.

Gal 3:3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?
4 Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain.

Heb 10:26  For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

1 Peter 4:17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of IAUE: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of IAUE?
18  And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?

We read passages like these and:

  1. They just go over our head, or
  2. We ignore the unpleasant ramifications of their message, or
  3. We nullify their message by overriding them with doctrines we have been taught.
It is a wonder how successful the enemy of our souls has been at convincing the church that IAUE expects nothing at all from us.  If we are IAUE’s enemies, now, by our choice to pursue our own will instead of His will in this life, what makes us believe that He is actually going to want to have us around when His Kingdom comes with manifestation?  If we are rebels against his authority and challenge His right to rule our lives now; why do we think we are going to fit into His Kingdom, later?  This is the time that we are to learn how to be humble obedient servants.  We will not have the opportunity to do so, later.

Luke 19:27 But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.

For 17 months, now, this blog has been devoted to weekly instruction designed to bring to the depths of the hearts of its readers, an awareness of a singular message.

Mark 12:29  And Yahushua answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; IAUE our Elohim is one Master:
30 And thou shalt love IAUE thy Elohim with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

The entirety of the Scriptures could be boiled down to this one objective:  The Father seeks those who love Him.  The gospel is designed to liberate such people to be able to express their love for Him. It isn’t a message designed to bring a train full of malcontents into His presence.

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love Elohim, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

1 Corinthians 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which Elohim hath prepared for them that love him.

2 Timothy 4:8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which IAUE, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

James 1:12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which IAUE hath promised to them that love him.

James 2:5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not Elohim chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?
1 John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

If you do not awake in the morning and consider the new day another blessing of grace to be able to live for IAUE and to express your love to Him through your words, thoughts and deeds; then you should reevaluate whether or not you are in the faith, or just in a religious culture.  Do not allow traditions of men to make the Word of IAUE of no effect in your life.  Seek Him whom your soul loves.  If He is hidden from you, it is only because He wants to be found by you.

A KINGDOM HEART – XLII

FUNDAMENTALS OF DISCIPLESHIP

A KINGDOM HEART – XLII

Hebrews 10: 5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:
In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.
7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O Elohim.
8 Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;
9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O Elohim. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.
10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Yahushua Messiah once for all.

Last week’s post ended with this comment:
He (David) knew he had to develop a dependency upon the strength of
his redeemer if he was going to succeed in maintaining a pure heart
before Elohim.  So, too, should we.  The question is, how desperately do
we want this?  The answer to that question will reveal whether or not we
are a disciple…or just a believer.

There is a clear message both taught and demonstrated throughout the New Testament; and that is, the gospel of Messiah Yahushua is to produce disciples. Faith in Yahushua is to produce a life that yearns for and is committed to the performance of the will of IAUE. What we see in practice today is a belief system that has produced a religious culture that accommodates believers doing whatever they please, controlling the course of their own lives.  This mindset is alien to the Scriptures.

“The Lists” exercise (see WBS006, June 2, 2013) terrifies believers because it exposes the intensity of their resistance to the will of IAUE and their rebellion against His authority to rule their lives.  They do not want brought into the light what they have so carefully kept in the dark because it upsets the comfortableness of their delusion that they can walk in darkness and still enjoy the fruits of the children of light.  Disciples, on the other hand, relish the exposure of anything within them that would dare to interfere with their performance of their Father’s will; hence, James words “count it all joy when you endure divers temptations,” because the experience of temptation exposes to the light wicked desires rooted in the heart and/or mind that must be eradicated lest they interfere with our true desire to serve IAUE.

One of the most popular verses quoted by Christians today is:

Psalm 37:4 Delight thyself also in IAUE: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

They envision that by embracing the religious culture of Christianity this will guarantee that IAUE will give them a better job, a better car, a better house, the perfect spouse, etc.  All such desires betray the fact they have not delighted in IAUE.  Look at how David expressed his delight.

Psalm 119:16 I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.
Psalm 119:24 Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counselors.
Psalm 119:35 Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight.
Psalm 119:47 And I will delight myself in thy commandments, which I have loved.
Psalm 119:70 Their heart is as fat as grease; but I delight in thy law.
Psalm 119:77 Let thy tender mercies come unto me, that I may live: for thy law is my delight.
Psalm 119:92 Unless thy law had been my delights, I should then have perished in mine affliction.
Psalm 119:143 Trouble and anguish have taken hold on me: yet thy commandments are my delights.
Psalm 119:174 I have longed for thy salvation, O IAUE; and thy law is my delight.

David’s delight was in learning, understanding and doing the will of IAUE.  He delighted in IAUE; so what kind of desires did this produce within him?

Psalm 27:4 One thing have I desired of IAUE, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of IAUE all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of IAUE, and to enquire in his temple.

Psalm 73:25 Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee

David’s desire was for more of IAUE; not to be distant from Him; but to be near Him to behold His beauty and to sit in His presence.  IAUE Himself was the object of his desire.  Yahushua had the same desire, and explained this to his disciples:

Matthew 6: 28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30 Wherefore, if Elohim so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of Elohim, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

The material needs of this world should no longer occupy a place of concern or even planning in the life of a disciple.  The Father knows what we need.  Supplying those needs is His job.  Devoting ourselves to the loving performance of His will is our job.  This brings us to today’s verses.

Hebrews 10:7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O Elohim.
8 Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;
9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O Elohim. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.

Messiah came to set aside the Torah which was powerless to change men’s hearts; and to replace it with…A WILL, a DESIRE…a desire to do the will of IAUE.  He told his disciples that he did always those things that pleased his Father; and that he did nothing unless he first saw His Father do it.  Yahushua had one desire…one thing…to attend to every word coming forth from His Father’s mouth; coupled with an earnest desire to do absolutely anything and everything He wanted him to do.

10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Yahushua Messiah once for all.

We are sanctified, set apart unto Elohim, by having that same will…the predisposition to hear and obey the will of IAUE.  If we merely believe the stories about Yahushua; if we merely believe the doctrines we are taught, and never experience the life consuming desire to do the will of IAUE, we are no more separated unto IAUE than those who regard the Bible stories as myths or irrelevant.

Hebrews 12:14  Pursue peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no one will see IAUE.

That which separates us unto IAUE, that which makes us different from the rest of the world, is the sanctifying will to do His will.

Kingdom heart: a heart that offers no resistance to the performance of the will of IAUE.
