THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE SOUL – IV

FUNDAMENTALS OF DISCIPLESHIP

THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE SOUL – IV

James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

If we are going to guard our heart with all diligence, one of the first things we need to realize is that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing“ (Romans 7:18).  We can NEVER look to the flesh for anything other than death; and we are most assuredly guaranteed of damage every single time we cater to the flesh.

I have taught Bible studies in several States in the USA and also in Germany.  Invariably, at some point, I have asked those who attended the studies why they came. Most who replied sought desperately to provide spiritual answers; hoping they would be giving the correct answer.  Occasionally, some would provide honest answers, like, “I like the music,” or “I enjoy the teaching,” or “I enjoy the fellowship.”  No one ever said, “The Holy Spirit told me to come.”

Then I would ask them if they considered themselves to be a believer or a disciple.  They were a little confused about this question; but most had the general concept that a disciple was somehow a believer who took more seriously the need to study the Scriptures and to spend time in prayer.  Being a believer was enough for them; but they all sensed that they should be disciples; because…well, they should be.  For most the difficulty of being a disciple is the need for discipline, and time.  Many believers think they have to have more time in their day to DO what a disciple does; and if they only had the discipline, they could probably carve out more time in their already filled daily schedules to DO what a disciple does.

Notice in all of this the perception of believers that discipleship is about them, what they need to do; and not about Messiah and who he is.   What is the purest declaration of the “gospel” message?  “Repent, for the Kingdom of IAUE is at hand.”  Well, what exactly does that mean, and how does it relate to being a believer or a disciple?

Repent.”  This is not turning from the bad things we have done, or turning from a self-centered lifestyle.  The other half of the message tells you what repentance is: “For the Kingdom of IAUE is at hand.”  Repentance, therefore, is a change of authorities and allegiance.  The KING is near, at hand, almost revealed.  Do we really want to continue to live our lives as though WE are the King of them?  Repentance is turning from a life that has rejected the right of Messiah to rule over them.  When the King appears, he will gather all those who refused to let him rule over them; and they will be slain before him (Luke 19:27).   A believer believes this is true.  A disciple lives in a manner that demonstrates he believes it is true.

James 2:18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

Why are we discussing this?  It seems unrelated to our study of the transformation of the soul.  The reason is that whatever message that purported to be the gospel to which we responded formed the foundation of what we believe and how we believe.  The reason this is critical to our study is that the TRUE gospel message does not leave any doubt in the mind of the respondent that his life is no longer his own.  He is not one who has received a free gift and is simply living his life as he/she pleases awaiting his blessed heavenly reward. He/she has acknowledged the complete authority of the King and has bowed his/her knee to him.  The one who responds to the true gospel has “repented” and exchanged their right to rule their lives to Messiah’s right to rule their lives.

Why is this so important to our study?  It is because the one who truly understands that ALL AUTHORITY BOTH IN HEAVEN AND IN EARTH has been given to Messiah; there is no more any personal authority to do as one pleases.  This means that a disciple of Messiah is dead, and his/her life is now hidden with Messiah in IAUE.  For the disciple to live IS Messiah, now.  This is important to our study because it lays the axe to the root of our constantly being wooed by the whisperer to walk in the flesh.  The sheep know the shepherd’s voice, and another they will not follow.

John 10:4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.
5 And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.

To the disciple, hearing the voice of the Master is a must; because a disciple lives to obey his voice.  A disciple is one who has yoked himself with the Master to learn his ways; to learn his thoughts; to learn how to become like him in every way.  This is not something a disciple does on Sunday morning.  It is a 24/7 occupation of obedience.

With this mindset and readiness to obey…to DO the Word and not be a hearer only; we are facing the spirit and mindful of the spirit at all times.  We do not take a pause to turn around and look at the flesh and to be mindful of the flesh.  The very act of considering the flesh is a temptation to breed contempt for our Master; because everything of the flesh is contrary to what the Master wants for us.  Nothing of the flesh will aid us in our pursuit of conformity to the image of our Master unto the glory of IAUE Elohim.

There is a hidden key in this text from James 1 about being a doer of the Word.  In recent weeks we have discussed, and have contemplated via graphic illustrations, how the Master desires that which is invested in our spirit, in the new man we have become, to move through the heart into the soul; and once embraced by the soul, to move outward into expression though the body.  Until we are DOING the Word of IAUE the cycle is not complete, and the transformation of our soul into his likeness is thwarted.  The hidden key is that there are certain things we CAN do to facilitate this transaction of bringing the Word of IAUE out of our spirit and into manifestation through our lives in the world.  Today, I want to speak about just one of these things.

THANKFULNESS:

Ephesians 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

I once read Ephesians 5:18, and then closed my Bible; and in a genuine sense of desperation and desire to be consumed by the Spirit of IAUE, I asked the Father, “How can I be filled with your Holy Spirit” all the time?  After letting me wallow in my own anguish for awhile, He replied, “Read the next verse.”

Ephesians 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to IAUE;

I felt pretty stupid, to say the least; but I looked at this verse and believed it must surely hold the key to being filled with the Spirit.  I should sing and make melody in my heart to IAUE.  This is contrasted with how the world is filled with a different spirit:  “And be not drunk with wine.” Have you considered how important it is to those in the world to drink alcoholic beverages?  They think about it all through the work day, looking forward to that moment they can head out to a bar or to friends to have a drink.  They think it is the way to connect to having company with the opposite sex: “Would you like to go out for a drink?”  They cannot be entertained without it: “The game is coming on in a half hour, go out and buy a case of beer.”  Drink is the spirit of the world; and they think about it and consume it regularly; and it lowers their inhibitions and makes them more susceptible to the flesh.  The Spirit of IAUE does the same thing for us, as we drink in the Spirit of IAUE, we become increasingly yielding to Him to do whatever He asks of us.

This verse, however, did not tell me WHAT I should sing.  It tells me both to sing and to make melody in my heart; and that I should do this to IAUE; but it is the NEXT verse that tells me what is the subject matter of this singing and making melody.

20 Giving thanks always for all things unto IAUE and the Father in the name of our Master Yahushua Messiah;

Giving thanks.  In order for one to give thanks, one must be thankful.  This requires that we come to understand the ways of IAUE, to know that He is always good, to be able to be thankful for all things. That is a process; but the process is accelerated by our obedience to this Word from IAUE…to DO the Word and not just hear it.  In other words, if we will decide to give thanks to IAUE in all things…all the time…all day long…every day, in song, in heart and in words; we will become people of thanksgiving.  No grumbling or complaining has room to be uttered out of the mouths of those who are dedicated to giving thanks.  There is no time to complain or argue.  DOING these verses will literally suck the life that is resident in the spirit of the newborn man, through the heart, through the soul and outward through the body.  This maintains a stream of the Spirit of IAUE working and moving through our lives.  We cannot help but be transformed by Him in this process.

Just think how quickly this process can be halted by a single complaint; how quickly we can terminate our experience of being filled with the Spirit.  A thankful heart, a thankful mind, and thankful lips keep the Holy Spirit active and moving within our lives.  Grumbling and complaining activates the flesh instantly.  The Holy Spirit will not compete against the flesh.  The flesh will usurp man’s will; but the Spirit will not.  We must yield to the Spirit in order to participate with Him.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of IAUE in Messiah Yahushua concerning you.

Disciples are often running around complaining that they don’t know what IAUE’s will for their life is; when it is here in black and white.  We are to give thanks, all the time, in all things.  This is the will of IAUE in Messiah Yahushua concerning us.  We cannot begin to walk in the will of IAUE in other areas if we will not do that which is already so plainly and clearly expressed to us as His will.

Be thankful to IAUE in absolutely everything knowing that IAUE works ALL THINGS according to the counsel of His will (Eph 1:11).  This is one key given to us in the Scriptures that will most assuredly draw the Holy Spirit through our hearts and into our souls and outward through our bodies.  Sing your thanksgiving.  Hum melodies to yourself that express your gratitude. Give thanks in all things…for THIS is the will of IAUE in Messiah Yahushua concerning you.

Kingdom heart: a heart that offers no resistance to the performance of the will of IAUE.

THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE SOUL – III

WBS.166
FUNDAMENTALS OF DISCIPLESHIP

THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE SOUL – III

Proverb 4:23 Keep they heart with all diligence for out of it; are the issues of life.

When we plant the seed of the Word of IAUE in our heart as we are working to renew our mind, we must be mindful of what we are putting into our heart.  What are we hearing?  What are we watching? What are we thinking? Is it water to the seed or poison to it?

By now, we have developed a good understanding of the importance of a pure heart, one that is undefiled and without hardness and personal issues that cloud, impede or block the treasure that IAUE has placed within our spirit.  To entangle the heart in pride, pet peeves, judgments of others, resentment, rebellion, etc., is to prevent the transformation of the soul into the likeness of IAUE.

So far we have discussed the spirit, soul and body of man.  We have discussed the heart as the wall separating (and uniting) the spirit with the soul, having the “wallpapers” of the conscience facing the spirit and the understanding facing the soul.  It is time for us to complete the last part of this picture, so we can fully grasp the dynamics of the process of renewing the mind and transforming the soul unto the likeness of IAUE.  What do you suppose we have omitted up until now?

Mark 12:30 And thou shalt love IAUE thy Elohim with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

Heart - soul - mind - strength.  Until now, we have depicted the soul as having the functions and attributes of mind, will and emotions.  Notice in these verses, however, after we are commanded to love IAUE with all our soul, we are also commanded to love Him with all our mind; as though the mind and soul were separate and distinct aspects of man that each needed to be commanded to love IAUE…a checklist to make sure we did not forget anything.

We have made great efforts to recognize the elements of the heart of man, and to demonstrate the role it plays as a 6th sense gate, the one that enables us to perceive the world of the spirit.  We have seen how it brings the spirit and soul of man together and forms a bridge for the light and life of IAUE to be transferred to the soul of man in order to transform the soul into the likeness of IAUE.  What we have NOT discussed yet, is how the soul of man is united with the flesh…with the body of man.  That contact point is the mind.

Leviticus 17:11 For the life (nephesh - soul) of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls (nephesh - soul): for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul (nephesh - soul).

The Scripture clearly teaches that the life of the soul (the soul life) is in the blood.  Not made apparent in the English translation of the Scriptures is what IAUE actually said He said He would make “man” in his image and after His likeness (Genesis 1:26).  The word “man” in Hebrew is “adam.”  It literally means red, or ruddy; because it comes from the root word “dam” which means, “blood.”  IAUE made man (adam), and called His name “Adam” (of blood).  When IAUE formed the body of man out of the dust of the earth and breathed the spirit of life into him, man became “a living soul.”  Man’s soul was united with his spirit through his heart, and united with his body through his mind. This is why we see the progression in the command to love IAUE completely as going from the heart, to the soul, to the mind, to the body (strength).

Notice that we are not commanded to love IAUE with all our spirit.  Our spirit is our life force, but it does not possess any faculties over which we have any control. Our spirit is either in darkness or it is in relationship to IAUE through Yahushua Messiah.  We do not feel with our spirit, nor think with our spirit, nor hold opinions, convictions or make decisions with our spirit.  All of that is done with the soul of man; and man’s soul, through the mind, is in union with the blood of man.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of IAUE is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The Word of IAUE pierces to the division of soul and spirit.  That is the heart.  That is why it states that the Word is a discerner of the thoughts and intentions of the heart.  However, it also says that the Word of IAUE pierces to the dividing asunder of joints and marrow.  Why would it mention joints and marrow?  It is because that is where the blood is created and enters the body.  That is where the soul and body come together.  So we see that the Word of IAUE is alive and powerful to help us to distinguish the source of ALL our thoughts and intentions.

How frequently do we have a thought and wonder if that is from IAUE or just from our own mind, or our own heart?  We often question whether we have heard IAUE or if it was just the pizza we ate last night?  We actually DO have confusion coming from our body through our joints and marrow; and we need the Word of IAUE saturating our soul to certify the source of what we are contemplating.  This is why, you may have heard, that the enemy’s real battlefield with man is in the mind.  The mind is the battlefield.  Let’s see another reason why this is so.

Genesis 3:14 And IAUE Elohim said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

In the Garden of Eden, Satan was cursed of IAUE for his role in beguiling Eve and subverting the Adam’s obedience to IAUE.  This curse was inexorably connected to the curse placed on Adam.

Genesis 3:19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

Satan was cursed to eat dust all the days of his life; and man’s body, man’s flesh was made of dust.

There is a very powerful image in the Scripture of this transaction. After Moses led the children of Israel out of Egypt across the Red Sea, he went up into the mountain to obtain the law of IAUE.  He was gone for so long the people pressured Aaron to fashion an idol unto which they could worship make offerings and sacrifices.  Aaron commanded them to bring their gold earrings, which he then melted and formed into a gold calf.  At that point, IAUE spoke to Moses and told him to return to the people, for they “have corrupted themselves” (Exodus 32:1-7).  Remember, IAUE had made man in HIS image; but now they were essentially declaring that they were made after the image of the gold calf.

Exodus 32:20 And he took the calf which they had made, and burnt it in the fire, and ground it to powder, and strawed it upon the water, and made the children of Israel drink of it.

Later, as Moses recounts this event, he says:

Deuteronomy 9:21 And I took your sin, the calf which ye had made, and burnt it with fire, and stamped it, and ground it very small, even until it was as small as dust: and I cast the dust thereof into the brook that descended out of the mount.

Golden calf worship has always been synonymous with Satan worship.  Moses took that which represented Satan, ground it as fine as powder, threw it upon the water and made Israel drink of it. Do you know what happens when you cast fine gold powder into water?  It turns the water to a blood red color.  Drinking the blood-red waters depicted the corruption of the soul life, the life of the flesh.

Isaiah 29:4 And thou shalt be brought down, and shalt speak out of the ground, and thy speech shall be low out of the dust, and thy voice shall be, as of one that hath a familiar spirit, out of the ground, and thy speech shall whisper out of the dust.

Paul had a word for this in his epistle to the Romans.

Romans 7:18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
22 For I delight in the law of IAUE after the inward man:
23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
25 I thank IAUE through Yahushua Messiah our master. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of IAUE; but with the flesh the law of sin.

Satan’s diet is dust.  Man’s flesh is dust.  Man’s sin works within him as a law, a principle that always drives man’s soul in one direction…away from IAUE and into the dinner plate of Satan.  Paul recognized that the war was in his mind; and he chose to direct his mind to the Spirit, to be spiritually minded, not carnally minded.  If one is carnally minded, his thoughts are toward the flesh; and it is only possible that he will serve sin and strengthen the influence of the enemy of his soul.

James 4:5  Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?

You may have noticed how quickly the enemy can move us to iniquity, to disobedience to the will of IAUE.  A whisper rises out of our dust to our mind saying, “Do this.”  Once the mind holds the thought, the law of sin begins to draws us in, just like a fisherman hooks a fish and reels him into his boat.  The Spirit can achieve just as quick a victory unto righteousness if the mind will simply look His way.  The Holy Spirit yearns for our attention.

If we are going to guard our heart with all diligence, one of the first things we need to realize is that “in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing (Romans 7:18).  We can NEVER look to the flesh for anything other than death; and we are most assuredly guaranteed of damage every single time we cater to the flesh.  The dust-eater is always there to take us into his lair.

THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE SOUL – II

WBS.165
FUNDAMENTALS OF DISCIPLESHIP

THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE SOUL – II

2 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of IAUE, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of IAUE.

We must obey the will of IAUE; for it is in our obedience to His will that the transformation of our soul occurs.

Resisting the will of IAUE, over time, will sear the conscience and blind one’s mind to the Truth, leaving man to his own devices; and we know that the way that seems right to a man are the ways of death.  There are only two options available to man.  Obey the will of IAUE or die.

2 Corinthians 4:6 For Elohim, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of IAUE in the face of Yahushua Messiah.
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of IAUE, and not of us.

Most disciples have no idea what is within them.  Paul refers to it as atreasure in earthen vessels.”  He even tells us that when that treasure is visible in our lives to others they understand because of the power of it that it is from IAUE and not of ourselves.  Just consider the value of this impact in witnessing to others and in proclaiming the gospel.  If what is proceeding forth from our lives in character and in deed is evident that it is born of IAUE, it leaves man without an excuse.  What we also need to understand is that all that is contained within this treasure is that which transforms our soul into the likeness of our Father.  How busy, then, should we be in seeking to assimilate this treasure into the fullness of our whole being?

That which has been placed within our inner man, the newborn spirit, doesn’t just spill out into our lives by accident.  It is a reservoir of glory that we must pursue, to pull out of that treasure chest and possess it in our heart and soul.

There used to be an old game show on television called “Concentration.”  In this game, there was a board of panels with hidden pictures behind them, and the contestant would have to call out two different panels on the board to try to match the pictures behind them.

If they matched a pair of pictures, the image behind them was exposed.  In a similar manner, when we renew our minds to the truth, and what we have learned matches what has been placed in our spirit, that part of the treasure is exposed and shines in our hearts.  It becomes a bit of the glory of IAUE that is now resident within our hearts.  The next step is for the soul to choose to act upon it in order to solidify the acquisition.  Without acting upon the Truth, it does not transform the soul; it does not yield its glory to our soul, nor does it shine through to our outer man, the body, unto the world around us.  In fact, the glory of that Truth will fade just as it did from the face of Moses the longer he was out of the presence of IAUE.  Even as faith is not really alive until it is acted upon, so too, revelation of Truth will descend into mere doctrine if it is not acted upon by the disciple.  If we receive elements out of our treasure only to acquire the knowledge of it and not to DO what it commands or implies, the glory of it will fade and our hearts will become hardened, making our next acquisition of treasure that much more difficult.

2 Corinthians 4:6 For Elohim, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of IAUE in the face of Yahushua Messiah.

Paul explains this process for us. Initially, when we were exposed to the good news, IAUE commanded the Truth of the gospel message to shine in or hearts.  Our soul (mind, will, emotions) then responded to the light, and we became the disciples of Messiah.  We became possessors of a great treasure within our earthen vessel. In like manner, as our pursuit of the glory of IAUE (our efforts to renew the mind) calls for the manifestation of the treasure that is within our newborn spirit, Elohim COMMANDS that light to shine to our hearts; but what that shining gives us is the “light,” or the “revelation knowledge” of the glory of IAUE in the way that it is manifested within and through and upon the glorified Messiah.  We see Yahushua. Yahushua is our example, our standard, and the perfected image of IAUE as it is to be witnessed within through and upon man. Remember, we are to be changed from glory to glory by the Spirit of IAUE until we look like Yahushua Messiah; for we are his body and members in particular (1 Corinthians 12:27).

Another way of viewing/picturing this process takes us back to the parable of the sower.  As we pursue the renewing of our mind; we do so primarily through study of and meditation upon the Scriptures.  If you will remember, we saw Yahushua describe the Word of his Father as seed sown in our hearts (which is depicted as a garden whose function it is to grow things).  As we water that word, protecting it from the things that would attempt to steal it, choke it, distract it, all that which is intent on rendering it unfruitful, that seed will at first send down a tap root to seek a source of nourishment in order to develop a healthy root system.  Once the root has found its source of food, the seed begins to short forth the plant.  It begins to grow, springing up we do not know how; but springing up, nevertheless.  That seed of the Word sends forth its roots into our spirit to tap the treasure that is birthed within us.  That glory feeds the word sown in the heart and transforms the soul; which then can be seen in our bodies.

From the parable of the sower, we can itemize the various things that Messiah said would interfere with this process.  We need to DO, not just HEAR what Messiah said.  We must protect the seed at all costs; and we do this by eradicating:

  1. the lack of root,
  2. the cares of this world,
  3. the deceitfulness of riches,
  4. the lusts for other things
  5. the lusts of the eyes,
  6. the lusts of the flesh,
  7. the pride of life,
These are the things that cause us to disobey the will of IAUE and to build bricks in our heart.  Messiah concluded his parable of the sower with this instruction:

Mark 4:21 And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?
22 For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.

We are to be doers of the Word, not hearers only deceiving ourselves.  If we do not DO the Word revealed, we are like someone who had his nature revealed in a mirror; but the moment he turns away from the mirror, he forgets what he looked like (James 1:22-23).  What profit is gained by anyone if we receive the light of IAUE only to hide it?  IAUE reveals absolutely NOTHING to us just so we can keep it a secret. He is intent on working with us to transform our soul into His likeness.

We should consider this a warning and a reproof.  We should be armed with this mindset, lest we be self-deluded, deceived, and we forfeit the revelation of the light of IAUE.

James 1:23 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.

There is just one more thing we need to understand about this process.

James 1:24 And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.

When we plant the seed of the Word of IAUE in our heart as we are working to renew our mind, we must be mindful of what we are putting into our heart.  What are we hearing?  What are we watching? What are we thinking? Is it water to the seed or poison to it? When a farmer sows seed to grow his next crop, the crop is everything to him.  He is not neglectful of the field into which he has sown seed.  He does not turn a blind eye to hazards or issues that endanger his field.  He does not sow tares among his wheat.  The only thing he wants growing in his field is the seed that he has planted; because his mind is set on the harvest it can yield.

Proverb 4:23  Keep thy heart with all diligence for out of it; are the issues of life.

THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE SOUL – I

WBS.164
FUNDAMENTALS OF DISCIPLESHIP

THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE SOUL – I

2 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of IAUE, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of IAUE.

We look into the Scriptures and we see Yahushua.  We see ourselves IN HIM, and we believe that even as he is so also are we in this world (1 John 4:17).  However, it requires more than just believing the Scriptures.  That is only the first step.  We must DO what we see in the mirror of the Word of IAUE.  Without corresponding actions, there is no changing from glory to glory; and THAT is the whole purpose. If we harden our hearts and refuse to allow what IAUE has created within our spirit to shine through our heart to our soul, then Messiah is become of no effect to us.  We are deceiving ourselves if we only believe.  We must DO.  We must obey the will of IAUE; for it is in our obedience to His will that the transformation of our soul occurs.

It is IAUE who gives unto every man the breath of life, the spirit.  The spirits of all mankind will return to IAUE whether they animated a person who was a disciple of Messiah or who rejected him in this life.

Ecclesiastes 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto Elohim who gave it.

The new creation was provided to man through faith in Yahushua Messiah so the life and light of IAUE supplied to the newly regenerated spirit would reclaim, not the spirit of man, but the soul of man.

Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Messiah Yahushua, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Christians love to quote this verse, but pay attention only to the first half of the verse.  The condemnation of man is relieved ONLY insofar as he walks in the spirit and shuns the flesh.

Romans 8:5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against IAUE: for it is not subject to the law of IAUE, neither indeed can be.
8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please IAUE.

Notice that it is that to which the mind of man attends, that which the mind of man loves and serves, that either pleases IAUE or sets itself up as the enemy of IAUE.

Romans 8:12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of IAUE, they are the sons of IAUE.

We have spent the past several weeks discussing “What is Man” in order to recognize that:

  1. IAUE created the entire universe as a showcase for His man.
  2. IAUE created man in His image and after His likeness.  Man was created to be a soul residing in a body that was animated by a spirit.
  3. Through the spirit of man, the life and light of IAUE was infused into man’s soul, conforming man to IAUE’s moral perfection and purity of character.
  4. In the fall of man, man’s spirit “died” in that it was cut off from the light and life of IAUE, leaving only darkness within Adam. Adam forfeited for the entire human race, aspects of the image of IAUE and all of man’s capacity to become like IAUE in his nature and character.
  5. Messiah was provided by IAUE to redeem unto man the fullness of the image of IAUE and to restore man’s capacity to maturing into the likeness of IAUE.
  6. The NEW CREATURE IN MESSIAH was the method by which the likeness of IAUE could be restored to man.
  7. The high calling of man in Messiah Yahushua is for man to submit his soul to the transformation of the Spirit of IAUE.
It is highly advantageous that we understand how this process works, this changing into the likeness of IAUE from glory to glory. We spent many weeks discussing this in our KINGDOM HEART series.  (I strongly recommend any reader who has begun reading this blog from some intermittent point to go back to the beginning and read the posts in order.  This blog builds upon itself from week to week.)

Briefly, let’s examine the mechanics of this “transformation of the soul.”  Let’s use the classic “target” illustration to define the relationships of the Spirit, Soul and body.

The Spirit is our “inner man” and it is what gives life/animation to our body as the core of man.  The soul is the intervening faculty between the Spirit and the Body.  It is the soul that is supposed to be responsive to the life and light of IAUE being communicated to man from the Spirit, and by an exercise of man’s “mind, will and emotions” to decide for the body that it shall speak and do in conformity to the will of IAUE that has been revealed in the inner man/the Spirit.  Where is the heart in this imagery?

The heart of man is the shared wall that both unites and separates the Spirit and the Soul.  Imagine one of the walls in your house.  On one side of the wall is the living room.  On the other side of the wall is the bedroom.  Whose wall is it?  The living room’s or the bedroom’s?  It is neither.  It is a wall that brings the two together, but also separates the two rooms.  Such is the Heart of man.  It is the go-between, the pass-through between Spirit and Soul.  Let’s look more specifically at the heart, now.

Going back to the wall in your house; you very likely have a layer of paint, or wallpaper on either side of that wall.  So too does the heart.  On the side of the heart facing the spirit, that wallpaper is called the Conscience.  On the side facing the soul, it is called the “Understanding.”  Now, from a simplified and purely mechanical perception, this is what is supposed to happen in our lives once we have become a new creature in Yahushua Messiah.

Light, life, revelation, etc., has been input or provided to our newborn Spirit.

  1. That information is communicated to our Conscience.
  2. The Conscience translates that information into a “language” that we can use and passes it through the heart to our Understanding.
  3. Once we understand that which has been revealed to us from our Spirit, that insight or revelation is subjected to our Mind, Will and Emotions; which makes a decision on how we will act upon that which we have come to understand; and THAT is what the body does.

Functionally, however, there are two major areas of opposition to this process.

One is the hardness of our heart toward IAUE.  Many believers do NOT want to be disciples of the Master Yahushua.  They want to live out their lives believing they are going to Heaven when they die; and in this life, they refuse to listen to and refuse to obey what they receive from the Spirit.  Over time, this creates blockages, bricks upon the side of the heart that faces the Spirit. Second is an unrenewed mind that refuses to recognize the input from the Spirit, that refuses to allow what is in the mind, already programmed by the flesh, to be altered by the mind of Messiah.  Both produce walls of hardness that prevents the passage of the light and life of IAUE to the Soul of man.

Resisting the will of IAUE, over time, will sear the conscience and blind one’s mind to the Truth, leaving man to his own devices; and we know that the way that seems right to a man are the ways of death.  There are only two options available to man.  Obey the will of IAUE or die.

Over the next few weeks, we will be looking at specific ways in which the process of conforming to the likeness of IAUE can be facilitated in our lives.

Kingdom heart: a heart that offers no resistance to the performance of the will of IAUE.
